In the creative world, we obsess over the start—the debut album, the rookie season, the meteoric rise. But after 15 years working in sports and music, I’ve realized the true mark of a legend isn’t the entrance.
It’s the exit.
It’s knowing when to move.
My mother spent 90% of her life in one job, representing a generation of stability. Yet, she was the one who pushed me to leave Colombia for New York with nothing but $1,000 and a phrase that changed my life: “La cara del santo hace el milagro” (The face of the saint makes the miracle happen).
In my latest essay, I connect this personal lesson to:
- The Legend’s Dilemma: Why Pelé retired at his peak instead of chasing stats.
- The Super Bowl Moment: How Bad Bunny’s halftime show masterfully illustrated the power of “living in the hyphen.”
- The Rebrand: Why I’m pivoting my own work to launch HYPHENATED.
Movement isn’t a betrayal of where you come from. It’s a commitment to where you’re going.
