I am honored and humbled to share that I’m nominated in the Sports Documentary category for the South East Sports Emmy Awards, for Miguel Almirón Contar Contigo, the documentary I directed and produced for Atlanta United FC. The South East Sports Emmy Award is the highest recognition in regional sports broadcasting and production.
This nomination, together with my talented collaborator and editor Joe Freihofer, represents more than a professional milestone. It is a recognition of a story told with care, intention, and deep respect for the human being at its center.
About the Film
Contar Contigo is a long-form documentary that chronicles the life, roots, and resilience of Miguel Almirón — Atlanta United’s most beloved player and one of the most inspiring figures in modern football. Rather than retell the highlights reel, we set out to tell the human story behind the athlete: the family, the sacrifice, the streets, the food, and the love that shaped him.
Over the course of production, Joe and I traveled to Asunción, Paraguay — walking the streets where Miguel grew up, sitting in his mother’s home, visiting Cerro Porteño where he nearly gave up on football, and standing in the legendary Defensores del Chaco, where Paraguay roared back into the World Cup after 16 years. Every frame was built on trust, listening, and an unwavering commitment to honoring a story that deserved to be told with integrity.
The film became the best-performing long-form piece of content in Atlanta United’s history.
On the Craft
I served as producer and director on this project, shaping the story from ideation and storyboard through production and distribution. Learn more about the process here. Joe dedicated countless days and nights to the edit, breathing life into every cut. Together, we approached this documentary not as a content deliverable, but as a piece of storytelling that we hoped would outlive the moment it was made.
Awards, in my view, are never the measure of success. The real achievement lives in the process — in the commitment, the collaboration, and the courage to tell a story the right way. This nomination, however, is a meaningful reminder that work done with genuine passion and purpose does not go unnoticed.

En lugar de repasar sus mejores jugadas, nos propusimos contar la historia humana detrás del deportista: la familia, el sacrificio, las calles, la comida y el amor que lo formaron.
Durante la producción, Joe y yo viajamos a Asunción, Paraguay — caminamos por las calles donde Miguel creció, nos sentamos en el hogar de su madre, visitamos el Cerro Porteño donde casi abandonó el fútbol, y pisamos el legendario Defensores del Chaco, donde Paraguay volvió al Mundial después de 16 años. Cada toma fue construida sobre la confianza, la escucha activa y un compromiso inquebrantable de honrar una historia que merecía ser contada con integridad.
El documental se convirtió en el contenido de largo aliento con mejor desempeño en la historia de Atlanta United.
Sobre el Trabajo
En este proyecto me desempeñé como productor, dando forma a la historia desde la conceptualización y el guión hasta la producción y distribución. Joe Freihofer dedicó incontables días y noches al montaje, dándole vida a cada corte. Juntos abordamos este documental no como una pieza de contenido más, sino como una obra de narrativa que esperábamos trascendiera el momento en que fue creada.
Los premios, a mi modo de ver, nunca son la medida del éxito. El verdadero logro vive en el proceso — en el compromiso, la colaboración y el valor de contar una historia de la manera correcta. Sin embargo, esta nominación es un recordatorio significativo de que el trabajo hecho con pasión genuina y propósito no pasa desapercibido.
